| For the first time, AMA Sports this
year honored its amateur racers as well as those who race
under the banner of the ATVA with a dinner and awards
ceremony in Las Vegas. Held at
the Las Vegas Hilton, the evening offered an opportunity
to recognize dozens of champion racers from such diverse
fields as ATV racing, road racing, enduro and hillclimb.
The program kicked off with a spectacular multimedia show
that included clips from nearly every movie ever made with
a motorcycle in it.
Then announcers Greg White and Tim
Cotter moved into the presentations, mixing in recognition
for racing champions with a number of new honors,
including awards of excellence for Jason Weigant as Print
Media Journalist of the Year, Steve Bruhn as
Photojournalist of the Year, Larry Maiers as Broadcast
Journalist of the Year, and www.cyclenews.com as Website
of the Year.
Competitors earning special
recognition included Riders of the Year in several areas.
On the ATV side, Joel Hetrick won in the Youth category,
Dustin Wimmer in the Amateur category, Angela Moore in the
Women's category, Scott Morris in the Vet/Senior category,
and Bill Ballance in the Pro category. |
