Crandon,
Wisconsin (June 27, 2004)--The Crandon International
Off Road Raceway celebrated 35 years of off-road
racing during the Forest County Potawatomi Brush
Run. As is the custom for the celebrated facility,
the racing was fast, with Johnny Greaves and Scott
Taylor continuing their success at the track.
Carl
Renezeder, the defending BorgWarner Manufacturer's
Challenge Shootout champion, can now put the Forest
County Potawatomi Governor's Cup Trophy along
side his BorgWarner Trophy. The Governor's Cup
Challenge is a 10-lap shootout with the Pro-4,
Pro-2 and Sportsman 2 trucks battling each other
at the same time. Renezeder, competing in his
4-wheel drive truck, held off Curt LeDuc (second-place)
and Scott Douglas (third-place) for the coveted
trophy.
Johnny
Greaves' Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Pro-4
led every lap in Rounds 4 and 5, moving him from
7th place in the Pro-4 standings to 4th with 68
points. Jason Baldwin had a third straight second-place
finish in Round 4, and a 4th place finish in Round
5, giving him the overall lead in the division.
In five starts, Baldwin has five top-four finishes,
including three second-place finishes.
Carl
Renezeder's Lucas Oil Chevrolet Pro-4 placed 4th
in Round 4 and 2nd in Round 5, moving him into
second with 72 points. Coming off two straight
wins in Rounds 2 and 3 in Antigo, Scott Douglas'
RANCHO Ford finished 3rd in Round 5, following
a 9th place finish in Round 4. Douglas is in third
place after the first five rounds of the season
with 70 points, only four behind Baldwin. Ten
points separate Jason Baldwin with Curt LeDuc,
the fifth place driver.
Attempting
to win an extraordinary sixth consecutive Pro-2
championship, Scott Taylor has opened the 2004
season with 3 wins and two second-place finishes
in five starts. In Rounds 4 and 5, Taylor had
to chase down Evan Evans' Forest County Potawatomi
Chevrolet to take the lead.
Renezeder's
Lucas Oil Chevrolet had a pair of second-place
finishes in Rounds 4 and 5, and trails Taylor
87-72. Dan Vanden Heuvel placed third in Round
4 and 10th in Round 5, giving him 61 points, and
sole possession of third place in the point standings.
In
the Pro-Lite division, Rick Huseman and Jeff Kincaid
won for the first time in 2004. Huseman's Fabtech
Ford earned his first win of the season by holding
off Steve Federico and Chad Hord in the final
laps of Round 4. Although the Crandon track has
not been kind to Huseman in the past, he took
the lead from the land rush start. Kincaid's Forest
County Potawatomi Toyota took the lead away from
Huseman on the third lap, but mechanical troubles
forced Kincaid to pull off the track with six
laps remaining. Steven Federico finished 2nd,
the best finish of the season for his Invisible
Glass/P.F. Changs Toyota.
Kincaid's
bad luck came to an abrupt halt in Round 5, where
he won for the first time in 2004. From start
to finish, Kincaid dominated the race. Chad Hord's
BOSS Snowplow Nissan Frontier challenged Kincaid
for the lead, but ran out of laps. Federico finished
3rd, and Rick Huseman 4th.
In
the Pro-Lite standings, the gap is narrowing for
the top-five drivers. Currently, Hord has the
lead over Kyle LeDuc, 67-65. Huseman moved into
3rd with 62 points, with Mark Krueger in 4th place
with 55 points. Art Schmitt's Nissan Frontier
and Federico's Toyota are tied for 5th in the
standings (54 points).
In
the Sportsman 2 division, defending champion Dan
Baudoux swept Rounds 4 and 5 to take an 87-69
lead over Mike Oberg. Baudoux is on a three-race
winning streak, dating back to Round 3 in Antigo.
In his Sportsman 2 career, Baudoux now has 19
career wins in 72 starts. With two more wins,
Baudoux will become the all-time leader in Sportsman
2 wins.
Mark
Kleiman broke a three way tie with Keith Steele
and Rhonda Konitzer in the Stock division with
his second win of the season in Round 5. Kleiman
had a second-place finish in Round 4. Dave Waldvogel
picked up his second career win in Round 4, where
he held off Kleiman. Steele finished third in
Round 4 and second in Round 5. Kleiman's lead
over Steele is 79-73. Rhonda Konitzer now sits
in third with 69 points.
Corry
Heynen stretched his lead in the Super Buggy division
to 22 points by sweeping Rounds 4 and 5. In five
starts, Heynen has 3 wins and 5 top-four finishes.
Heynen's career total of Super Buggy wins is 13
in 49 starts. Ryan Mulder finished third (Round
4) and second (Round 5), and is currently second
in the standings (64 points).
In
the Single Buggy division, defending champion
Michael Seefeldt and the 2001 champion Mark Steinhardt
continue their jostling. Seefeldt won his first
race of the year in Round 5, and finished third
in Round 4. Steve Socha took the checkers in Round
4, his first win of 2004. Steinhardt remains close
to Seefeldt with the help of two second-place
finishes in both rounds. Seefeldt leads Steinhardt
80 to 73. John Fitzgerald is in third with 55
points.
Craig
Metz swept both rounds in the Light Buggy division,
which gives him a 76 to 70 lead over Greg Stingle.
Stingle finished second in Round 5. Ben O'Connell
is third in the point standings with 67.
The
2004 CORR Lucas Oil Series will visit Heartland
Park Topeka July 9-11 for the next three rounds
of competition.
