Johnny Greaves (Pro-4), Scott
Taylor (Pro-2), and Kyle LeDuc (Pro-Lite) take
leads in the 2004 CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series
—The
2004 CORR Lucas Oil Series hit full stride at
the Lucas Oil Heartland Park Topeka Off-Road
Championships, running Rounds 6 through 8 in
the 2004 CORR Lucas Oil Series.
With the final make-up round from
Dresser, three rounds of racing in three days
enabled many drivers to move up in the
standings with 80 points available.
After
Round 8 was completed, two familiar trucks
stand in first place, as Johnny Greaves
(Pro-4) and Scott Taylor (Pro-2) will attempt
to claim another championship.
Kyle LeDuc is attempting to win his
first Pro-Lite championship.
In order to do so, he must unseat Jeff
Kincaid and several other drivers who are
within striking distance in the championship
points battle.
Johnny Greaves’ Forest County Potawatomi
Toyota came into Round 6 following a sweep in
Rounds 4 and 5.
Greaves’ win streak in the Pro-4
division quickly went to four with victories
in Rounds 6 and 7.
Jason Baldwin was the only driver who
held Greaves from winning his fifth
consecutive race, winning for the first time
of the year in Round 8.
Greaves, who received a black flag
penalty early in Round 8, moved back to the
front, but Baldwin beat Greaves in a sprint to
the checkers on the final lap.
Carl
Renezeder’s Lucas Oil Chevrolet finished
behind Greaves in Rounds 6 and 7, giving
himself a streak of three straight
second-place finishes.
In Round 8, the defending champion
placed 8th.
Following Round 8, Greaves has a 124 to
120 lead over Jason Baldwin, with Renezeder in
third with 112 points.
Scott Douglas and Curt LeDuc are tied
in 4th place with 99 points a
piece.
In the Pro-2 division, a pair of first-time
winners in 2004 broke through at Heartland
Park Topeka.
For the Red Bull Ford of Steve Barlow,
a victory in Round 6 was his first career CORR
win. Evan Evans, whose Forest County Potawatomi Chevrolet is
seemingly always at the top of the standings,
won in Rounds 7 and 8, his first two wins of
the year.
Barlow and Evans saw a familiar truck
lurking in their rear view mirror, but both
drivers did not panic when Scott Taylor
attempted to take away their wins.
Three second-place finishes in Rounds 6
through 8 allowed Taylor and his Skyjacker
Ford continue to lead the division.
Taylor’s lead is 135 to 103 over
Evans. Carl
Renezeder stands in third place with 101
points.
Kyle LeDuc did not allow two bad rounds of
racing in Crandon to set him back in his
attempt to claim the Pro-Lite championship.
With a 16th and 12th
place finish in Rounds 4 and 5, LeDuc bounced
back to claim wins in Rounds 6 and 8.
With a second-place finish in Round 7,
LeDuc’s Skyjacker Ford moved back into the
division lead, 121 to 104 over Rick Huseman.
Huseman won Round 7, his second win in
2004. LeDuc now has five wins in eight rounds of racing.
Two Nissan Frontiers round out the top-four,
as Chad Hord (96 points) and Art Schmitt (93
points) continue their move up the standings.
Steven Federico had a third straight
top-three finish in Round 6, giving him 88
points in the first eight rounds.
Sportsman 2 defending champion Dan Baudoux is
not letting up in his attempt to defend his
trophy. Baudoux
swept Rounds 6-8, and now has won the last six
rounds of racing in the division.
With his winning streak still alive,
Baudoux has a 147 to 105 lead over Mike Oberg
with four rounds remaining.
In the Stock division, Mark Kleiman maintained
his lead by winning Rounds 6 and 8, while
Keith Steele took home a win in Round 7.
Kleiman, Steele, and Rhonda Konitzer
are starting to separate themselves from the
rest of the division.
Kleiman has a 123 to 117 lead over
Steele. Rhonda
Konitzer (113 points) has not finished out of
the top-five in 2004.
2003 Super Buggy champion Aaron Hawley rapidly
moved up in the standings by winning Rounds 6
and 7. Starting
the weekend in 14th place, Hawley
is now in 6th.
Steve Krieman won for the second time
of the year in Round 8, holding off Scott
Schwalbe.
Although he did not win this weekend,
Corry Heynen has a dominating 112 to 93 lead
over Ryan Mulder.
Heynen finished behind Hawley in Round
7.
In the Single Buggy division, a two-man race
for the championship is evolving between
defending champion Michael Seefeldt and Mark
Steinhardt.
Steinhardt won for the third time in
Round 8, and he now has a 123 to 115 lead over
Seefeldt.
In Round 6, Steve Socha won for the
second time in 2004.
Brad Erickson took home his first win
of the year in Round 7.
In the Light Buggy division, Jeff Schulze won
for the first time in 55 career Light Buggy
starts in Round 6.
Current points leader Ben O’Connell
won for the second time of the year in Round
7, and Craig Metz won Round 8.
O’Connell has a 109 to 108 lead over
Greg Stingle.
Metz is third with 98 points.
In the 2004 CORR Manufacturer Championship
Standings, Ford leads all three divisions.
In Pro-4, Ford leads 132 to 124 over
Toyota; the Pro-2 lead is 144 to 142 over
Chevrolet, and a 152 to 116 lead over Nissan
in the Pro-Lite division.
(Toyota has 112 points).
Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2004 CORR Lucas Oil Pro
and Sportsman Series will take place at the
Bark River Off-Road Raceway in Bark River,
Michigan on August 14-15.
