Sportsman 2 driver Don Williams bringing Race Fans For a Cure
to Championship Off Road Racing
As
devastating as cancer has been to thousands of
families, Don Williams knows first hand what
kind of impact the disease takes on loved
ones. In
the fall of 2002, Williams’ girlfriend, Sue
Lustig, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After treatments, she has been cancer
free since the spring of 2003.
Williams
joined the Race Fans for a Cure foundation,
seeking to bring awareness to breast cancer.
All money raised in the program goes to
the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
for the fight against breast cancer.
“This
(the program) is something that is good even
though cancer is so bad. This program means a lot to the whole team,” said Williams.
At
the last CORR Lucas Oil Series event at
Heartland Park Topeka, fans signed the hood of
his Sportsman 2 truck for a small donation.
The hood was white and decaled with the
pink ribbon of hope.
“Some
people just need to know that they are not
alone,” noted Williams.
“We will do this for as long as we
can. Taking
a bad thing and try to make something good
that makes it all worth it!”
Although
Race Fans for a Cure is popular in the NASCAR
Nextel Cup Series, Williams is ecstatic to
bring the program to off-road racing.

Williams
will continue the Race Fans for a Cure program
next week in Bark River, Michigan (August
14-15) and Crandon, Wisconsin (September 4-5).
