LeDuc’s timely victory moves him into a tie with
Renezeder
on
top of the Pro-4 standings
Bark River, Michigan
—Curt
LeDuc and his Skyjacker Ford picked the perfect
opportunity to claim his first Pro-4 victory of the
year. LeDuc’s victory in Round 10 was the 12th
of his CORR career. The Bark River Off-Road Raceway
has been kind to LeDuc. Four of LeDuc’s career wins
have taken place in Bark
River. LeDuc
held off the hard charging Rancho Ford of Scott
Douglas in Round 10. Carl Renezeder kept a portion of
his Pro-4 lead with a second-place finish in Round 9
and a third-place finish in Round 10.
The championship point standings continue to remain
tight in the elite division, with eight points
separating the top-four drivers. LeDuc and Renezeder
are tied with 132 points, defending champion Johnny
Greaves has 129 points, and Scott Douglas, who is
currently fourth, has 124 points.
Johnny Greaves returned to the winner’s circle for the
first time since Round 2 when he took the checkers in
Round 9. Greaves’ third win of the season moved him
up a position into third. Josh Baldwin had two
top-five finishes, placing third in Round 9 and fifth
in Round 10.
Scott Taylor and his Mobil1 Ford continue their quest
to win the Pro-2 championship for the fifth
consecutive year. Taylor now has 33 career wins in 88
starts. In nine rounds of competition, Taylor has 5
wins and nine top-four finishes.
Despite being penalized two times during the race,
Taylor
was able to win the race in Round 9. In Round 10,
Taylor had to pull into the pits to repair a tire.
Even by stopping on the first lap, Taylor finished
fourth, and has a commanding 158 to 120 lead over
Renezeder with four rounds remaining.
Dan Vanden Heuvel returned to his Kumho Tire Chevrolet
for the first time since his horrific crash in Round 8
and finished 10th. Vanden Heuvel’s intent
was to take the green flag and allow another driver to
take his place on the first lap, but when he took the
lead from the start, that plan became an
afterthought. Vanden Heuvel remained up front for
most of the race, but a broken right front tire
knocked him off the track.
Carl Renezeder claimed his second Pro-2 win in Round
10, holding off Evan Evans. Renezeder’s win with his
Lucas Oil Chevrolet moved him back into second place,
two points ahead of Evans (120 to 118). Rookie Steve
Barlow powered his Red Bull Ford to two third-place
finishes, which were his best finishes of the year.
Larry Gourlie’s second-place finish in Round 9 and
fifth place finish in Round 10 allowed his Quick ‘n
Brite Chevrolet to go from sixth to fourth overall in
the standings (93 points).
Jeff Kincaid entered Round 9 facing an eleven point
deficit over Rick Huseman. When the Forest County
Potawatomi Team left Bark
River, they
had a 134 to 124 lead over Huseman. Kincaid’s fourth
win of the 2003 season in Round 10, coupled with a
fourth-place finish in Round 9, capped a weekend in
which Steve Federico became the fifth different driver
to win in the Pro-Lite division.
In Round 9, Federico’s Ingle’s Market/Mountain Dew
Toyota took advantage by taking the lead in the first
turn. At one point, Jeff Kincaid passed Federico, but
was given a black flag penalty for passing under a
yellow-flag. Chad Hord’s BOSS Snowplow Toyota
finished second, and Art Schmitt placed third.
Both Hord and Kyle LeDuc captured their best finishes
of the season during the weekend. Hord finished
second in Round 9, and in Round 10, LeDuc gave Kincaid
a great battle, but time was not on his side. In
Round 10, the Nissan Frontier team of Joe Wutke III,
Art Schmitt, and Mark Krueger, placed third, fourth
and fifth successively. With 107 points, Schmitt
maintained his third-place position in the
standings.
With his third victory of the 2003 season, Dan Baudoux
leads the Sportsman 2 division 131 to 124 over Mike
Oberg. Oberg and his Dynomax Chevrolet placed second
in both rounds.
Ross Hoek took home his first victory in the Sportsman
2 division, when his Superlift Ford won in Round 9.
Hoek finished third in Round 10. Michael Savage
maintained third place with 109 points.
In Stock, Mark Kleiman moved from third-place to first
with two rounds remaining. Kleiman, the two time
defending Stock champion, has a 121 to 117 lead over
Jeff Lutzow. Two Stock drivers won for the first time
in their CORR careers in Rounds 9 and 10. In Round 9,
Rookie Dave Waldvogel won, beating Lutzow to the
checkers, as Rhonda Konitzer finished third. In Round
10, Rod Wells was able to hold off Kleiman, with
Victor Anderson placing third.
Aaron Hawley continues to lead the Super Buggy
division, 120 to 98 over Scott Schwalbe. In Round 9,
Corry Heynen won for the second time in the last four
starts, holding off Hawley. In Round 10, Schwalbe won
for the third time in 2003, with Hawley placing
second. Tim Christensen finished third in both
rounds, giving him his best finishes of the season.
Steve Socha remains on top of the Single Buggy
standings after Round 10. Michael Seefeldt moved to
within one point of Socha, 117 to 116 with a win in
Round 10. In Round 9, Brad Erickson won for the
second time in 2003, while Seefeldt placed second.
Point’s leader Socha had a fourth-place (Round 9) and
a third-place (Round 10) finish. Adam Guberud is in
third-place with 100 points.
In the Light Buggy division, defending champion Josh
Hintz took over first place following Round 10, and
now has a 107 to 101 lead over Jeff Virnig. Ben
O’Connell is third with 85 points. Hintz had a
second-place finish (Round 9) and a fourth-place
finish (Round 10) over the weekend. Jamie Kleikamp
won for the second time in a row in Round 9, and Tra-C
Fleischman won for the first time in 56 career starts
in Round 10. Rookie Gerald Kleikamp finished second
in Round 10.
The 2003 CORR Lucas Oil Series is at a crucial stage
in the season. With championships to be determined,
the Pro Series has four rounds left, and the Sportsman
Series will conclude at the Crandon International
Off-Road Raceway during Rounds 11 and 12 on August
30-31. For more information, visit
